Hitmen prevail over Pats Friday in Calgary

A first period Austin Pratt power play goal was the last time Regina scored in Friday night’s 4-1 loss to the Hitmen in Calgary.

It was the start the Pats were looking for in a difficult road matchup. During the man advantage, Pratt tipped in a Carson Denomie shot for his 10th goal of the season, putting Regina up 1-0.

Momentum switched over to the Hitmen after the Pats allowed a shorthanded goal near the halfway point of the game. Hunter Campbell provided the goal for Calgary to knot the score 1-1.

Soon after, Riley Stotts picked a hole through Max Paddock with his 9th of the year. The Hitmen were up 2-1 heading into the third after leading in shots 20-8 in the middle frame.

Pats goaltender Max Paddock was called on a number of times in the third period as waves of pressure continued from the home side.

Jonas Peterek solved Paddock three and a half minutes into the period to give the Hitmen a 3-1 lead. With a few minutes left in regulation, Carson Focht punched in his 13th goal on a 5-on-3 man advantage.

The Hitmen went on to win 4-1.

Paddock was one of Regina’s best players in the loss by making 42 saves.

The Pats will try to avoid losing their third straight game on Saturday when they visit the Red Deer Rebels. Listen to the broadcast beginning at 7:35 p.m. with pre-game on 620 CKRM.
