Heavy rain hammers Humboldt Sunday afternoon

A local state of emergency was declared in Humboldt on Sunday, after an afternoon storm brought torrential rain to the region.

Environment Canada’s website says the city received around 31 mm’s of rainfall, with meteorologist Natalie Hasell saying about 25 mm’s fell in just over ten minutes.

She added there are unofficial reports of much more rainfall in the area, with as much as 88 mm’s reported in some spots just outside Humboldt.

Large hail was also reported in the Weldon area.

The storm lasted just under an hour.

Streets and yards were flooded in parts of Humboldt, with some basements receiving water damage as well.

Hasell said right now there are no reports of funnel clouds with the super cell, but she says front line winds were strong, with reports of overturned train cars in the Nipawin/Prince Albert region.

Meanwhile in Regina about 14 mm’s was measured over the past 24 hours, Moose Jaw saw just over eight mm’s.
