Anyone else have to check the house locks multiple times before leaving?

Maybe it’s paranoia, maybe it’s OCD, or maybe it’s just complete silliness but I hope I’m not the only one who has to check the door one, two, or three times after knowingly locking it to make sure it’s actually locked.

Everyday as I head out to work I close my door and lock it. I give the door knob a little turn and a shove to make sure it’s locked but that just never seems good enough! As I sit in my truck waiting for it to warm up I’ll continuously think that the house door is not locked. I have nothing of value to swipe anymore but it remains top of mind as I sit there. I have to literally hop out of my vehicle, run to the house door, and confirm, again, it’s locked!

Heck, I’ve had days where I’ve been late because I drove back home thinking I never locked the house. I’ve also had days where I seem distracted at work because why? I feel like the house door remains unlocked, probably swinging wide open, with a lineup of thieves and burglars traipsing in and out with my old, worthless technology. It’s not just the locks that keep me paranoid either. I go through the same worry and range of emotions about the burner on the stove. Did I turn it off? Will I get a call from the fire department saying my house is up in flames?

Of course that’s never the case but it does go to show how active and wild our minds can get sometimes. There is a solution to avoid that sick feeling of wondering if your door is locked or your burner is off; just work from home in your pj’s! I’ll bring this up with my boss and let you know how it goes.
