Riders host B.C. Aug. 6 to start 2021 season

It’s the date Saskatchewan has been waiting to hear.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders will begin their 2021 season Friday, Aug. 6 against the B.C. Lions to kick off their 14-game CFL regular season. Kick-off will be 7:30 p.m. Saskatchewan time.

The Riders will start the season with four straight home games, with a bye-week set for week 4. Their first road game will be the annual Banjo Bowl in Winnipeg.

The Riders will have another bye week during week 11. They play their long-time rival Calgary Stampeders three times in four weeks, from Oct. 2 until Oct. 23.


Currently Mosaic Stadium will have at least 35 percent capacity, however it could be more depending on health restrictions at that time, tickets are available on the Saskatchewan Roughriders website. 

More important dates in the CFL season include:

Aug. 5. Hamilton Tiger-Cats vs. Winnipeg Blue Bombers (first CFL game of 2021 and 2019 Grey Cup rematch).

Aug. 7, Ottawa REDBLACKS vs. Edmonton Elks (Edmonton’s first game with new nickname).

Sept. 3-6, Labour Day weekend.

Sept. 17, Charleston Hughes’ return to Saskatchewan.

Oct. 6-11, Ottawa REDBLACKS and Toronto Argonauts play twice in one week (OTT vs. TOR Oct. 6, OTT vs MTL Oct. 11, TOR vs. HAM Oct. 11).

Nov. 20, Final day of regular season (SSK vs. HAM, WPG vs. CGY).

Dec. 12, Grey Cup 108 in Hamilton.
