Late field goal gives Huskies 11-10 win over Rams

A 32 yard field goal by David Solie with two seconds remaining gave the University of Saskatchewan Huskies an 11-10 win over the University of Regina Rams on Saturday in the final game of Football Weekend in Saskatchewan.

The Huskies picked up the win despite not scoring a touchdown in the victory with Solie kicking three field goals to lead the U of S offence.

Most of the Rams points occurred in the opening 16 seconds of the game. On the opening kickoff, the U of R was able to recover an onside kick. On the first offensive play of the game, Noah Pelletier was able to find D’Sean Mimbs for a 29 yard score in what proved to be the only touchdown of the game.

Mason Nyhus ended the game with 279 yards passing. Rhett Vavra had 105 yards receiving and Ryker Frank had 88 yards rushing for the Huskies.

For the Rams, Pelletier 201 yards passing with a touchdown and an interception. Mimbs ended the night with eight catches and 94 yards while Riley Boersma had eight catches for 60 yards. Christian Katende had nine carries for 64 yards rushing.

With the win, the Huskies are on top of the Canada West standings at 3-0, while the Rams drop down to 2-1.

The next action for the Rams is Friday when the meet the UBC Thunderbirds.
