Shock, anger and disgust are some of the feelings of many today in a northwest Regina neighborhood, after a well known Christmas display was completely destroyed overnight on Wednesday.

The Allen family in Lakeridge spent worked countless hours to make the display what it is.

Neighbor Les Caragata said he hopes whoever committed this senseless act comes forward.

“I don’t know how you can replace all the work that he’s done, yes it’s a cost factor but it’s also the pleasure and the time he spends enjoying building it, to have that taken away from you, I just find it very hard to believe that someone would go along and destroy a display like that,” Caragata said.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the Allen family replace what was lost.

A post on the Allen Family Lights Facebook page indicates it’s believed to have been someone driving a black truck that destroyed the display.

The display had over 36,000 LED lights with three rotating songs that played as of Wednesday night.

“If you don’t like the display just drive by, he spends a lot of money on lighting and putting the display up, to have it destroyed is just senseless,” Caragata said.

Caragata said he’s lived in the area about 16 years and has never seen something like this.

“Yeah you get the odd person looking into vehicle windows or kids out late running around in the summertime, but never anything like this, it’s very upsetting to me and everyone in the area. Yes it creates a little more traffic but it’s not a big deal,” said Caragata.

They Allen’s also have a well known Halloween display each year.
