Number 1’s at 1 – June 18

Today is my final day guest hosting Number 1’s at 1. Colin Lovequist is back in the #1 chair for Friday’s edition of the show.

We’ll celebrate the life and legacy of Jim Reeves to kick off the show. His album “Distant Drums” reached number 1 on the country albums chart on this day in 1966. It was released after his death in 1964 and stayed at number one for seven weeks. Three singles from the album went to number one for him.

This week in 1960 on the country chart Hank Locklin was about halfway through a 14 week ride at number one with “Help me I’m Falling.” The song was from the album “Please Help Me I’m Falling.”

The Everly Brothers started their third and final week at number one back in June of 1958 with “All I Have to do is Dream.”

Gordon Lightfoot’s “Sundown” was certified gold on this day in 1974.

Neal McCoy started a four week ride at number one on the country chart with “Wink.” It would be the most performed song of 1994, which allowed him to receive a prestigious award for it.

We’ll celebrate two country music birthdays on the show today. Blake Shelton turns 44 and Jimmie Allen turns 34.

Keith Urban scored a number one on this day in 2011 with “Without You.” It would stay at the top of the chart for one week.
