Environment Canada expects this week’s blast of cold winter air will be gone within a week.

Senior climatologist David Phillips said temperatures will be several degrees below normal this week, but moderate near the weekend.

He also said the winter outlook is warmer than normal.

“We’re calling for perhaps maybe milder than normal conditions this winter, so really from December, January and February, it’s an outlook not a forecast so it won’t be everyday it’s just the dominant pattern may be from more then west and the south and not the north,” he said.

Phillips added December will be drier than normal, but winter snowfall will be about average.

For spring and summer, he predicts normal seasonal temperatures and moisture.

Wind chills will be sub -30 C to start the work week in parts of southern Saskatchewan, while far north Extreme Cold Warnings are in effect.
