The province is expressing disappointment with the RCMP over the fact they will not participate in enforcing “Clare’s Law”.
Saskatchewan is the first province in Canada to introduce the legislation which comes into effect June 29.
Clare’s Law allows police to disclose information which could help potential victims of domestic violence by allowing people to go to their local police service asking for a release of information on their partner’s past behaviour.
While all municipal police services in Saskatchewan will be participating in this new protocol, the RCMP has indicated its refusal to participate.

Justice Minister Don Morgan has written a letter to Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Minister Bill Blair in which he states the province’s disappointment with this move by the RCMP.
It is not known why the RCMP has taken the position that they have.
