It was a long horse race in Saskatoon-Meewasin as the political parties of the province jockeyed for position, but in the end, it was the NDP’s Nathaniel Teed who came out on top. Teed picked up almost 57 percent support, with 2624 votes.

The Sask Party’s Kim Groff was next with 1712 votes, or 37 percent support.

Provincial Liberal leader Jeff Walters was third garnering 118 votes, followed by the Buffalo Party’s Mark Friesen at 112. Jacklin Andrews with the Green Party with 56 votes.

“I am truly honoured to welcome Nathaniel Teed to the NDP team – our newest and youngest member of the Saskatchewan legislature” said NDP leader Carla Beck. “Nathaniel inspired so many people in the riding with his hard work, dedication, and unbridled enthusiasm. As a business owner, advocate and former educator, Nathaniel is going to be such a strong voice for the people of Saskatoon-Meewasin and deserves every bit of this win. This victory is for all the people that are sick of Sask. Party tax hikes and demand action on the high cost of living, good paying jobs and healthcare that’s there when you need it.”

Teed is also the first openly gay MLA ever elected in Saskatchewan.

The New Democrats now have 12 seats in the Legislature with the Saskatchewan Party at 48. There is also one independent.
