Canada’s finance ministers wrapped up a one day get together in Ottawa Tuesday, with federal minister Bill Morneau saying changes to the fiscal stabilization program won’t happen before the new year.
Saskatchewan’s Finance Minister Donna Harpauer said in a news scrum afterwards with the large volume of grain harvested, but with quality down, reviewing safety net programs for producers was on her mind.
“We’re not looking at ad hoc program in Saskatchewan, we believe there is already safety net programs in place and we’re not looking at ad hoc in any different situation,” Harpauer said.
She also mentioned the carbon tax, which Premier Scott Moe has asked the Prime Minister to waive for fuel for grain drying after many producers racked up bills into the thousands of dollars this harvest.
