STARS Ambulance celebrates 10-years in Sask. with announcement for $10 million in funding

As of April 30, 2022, STARS Ambulance has been operating at its Regina base for ten years.

Since 2012, STARS has carried out 9,288 missions and 1,725 of those missions were carried out between 2021 and 2022.

Today, STARS Ambulance and its Crown investors, which are Crowns Investments Corporation (CIC), SaskPower, SaskEnergy, SGI, and Sasktel, announced the renewal of a five-year funding agreement.

The agreement will see the crowns provide up to $10 million or $2 million per Crown to STARS over five years.

“Saskatchewan’s Crowns have recognized the value of STARS since its inception in Saskatchewan and have supported this essential air ambulance service for 10 years,” says Don Morgan, Minister for CIC.

With the renewed funding, cumulative giving from the province’s Crown Corporations will reach $30 million for STARS in Saskatchewan since 2012.

“The ongoing funding from our provincial government along with the incredible support of our Crown corporations is the very lifeblood behind our life-saving operations,” says president and CEO of STARS, Andrea Robertson.

Along with the renewed five-year agreement, the Government of Saskatchewan renewed a ten-year contract with STARS in 2021 to continue to fund 50% of the charitable air ambulance’s operations.

The provincial Government also committed to providing $13 million to STARS’ Keep the Fight in Flight capital fundraising campaign to purchase one new helicopter
