Pats begin homestand by hosting Winnipeg

For only the second time this season, the Regina Pats will be in action at the Brandt Centre as they host the Winnipeg ICE on Friday night.

Two weeks ago, the Pats opened up the brand new campaign with a loss to Moose Jaw on home ice, since then, the blue, red and white have rattled  a 3-2 record over five straight games away from the Queen City.

Regina is coming off a 3-1 win over Brandon on Wednesday, a large part of the victory was due to the efforts of goalie Matthew Kieper who made 51 saves to earn the victory between the pipes.

After a quiet opening night, Pats captain Connor Bedard has settled into usual point production. He currently has a five point streak and leads the WHL in points (11).

Borya Valis and Tanner Howe both rank second in points for the Pats, each player has scored three goals along with four assists.

The ICE have gotten off to a strong start in the early portion of the new season with a perfect 4-0 record. The ICE are opening the season with 13 games on the road before they hold their home opener on Saturday, October 29.

Zach Benson and Connor McClennon lead Winnipeg in points each player has scored three goals with four assists over the opening four games.

Daniel Hauser has started three games in net for the Ice, with a 3-0 record, a 1.62 GAA and .941 SAV%.

The Pats and ICE will face off with each other six times during the regular season.

Regina is 0-14-1-1 against the ICE since they moved to Winnipeg from Kootenay before the 2019-20 season.

Tonight’s game begins a three game homestand for the Pats, they will be in action again tomorrow when they host the Swift Current Broncos and they will host Prince Albert.

Tonight’s game can also be heard on RM2, pregame begins at 6:35, opening faceoff is 7:00.
