Tiger-Cats pressure Roughriders to take control of playoff fate

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats are now in the drivers seat to grab the final playoff spot in the CFL’s Eastern Division, as they defeated the Saskatchewan Roughriders 18-14.

The pass rush was relentless all night as the Tiger-Cats sacked Riders QB Cody Fajardo seven times to gain the victory.

The green and white’s losing streak extends to five games.

Saskatchewan was unable to score any points in the second half after leading 14-9 at the conclusion of the first half.

Wes Hills led the Hamilton ground attack picking up 132 yards on the ground.

Seth Small led the Tiger-Cats connecting four field goals. With the go ahead 30 yard field coming with 1:16 remaining in the third quarter.

Fajardo had a pair of touchdown passes for Saskatchewan, connecting with Kian Schaffer-Baker and Jutin McInnis. The Riders QB had 259 yards passing with a pair of interceptions including one that came on the final play of the game.

Schaffer-Baker led Rider receivers with six catches for 93 yards and a touchdown. Pete Robertson had an interception along with Darnell Sankey picking up a sack.

With the loss, Saskatchewan(6-10) now only leads Hamilton by two points for the final playoff spot. The Tiger-Cats have one game in hand on the Roughriders, and will meet Calgary next week before closing out their season with a pair of games against the Ottawa REDBLACKS.

The Roughriders are now entering their final bye week, they close out the season with a home and home set against the Stampeders. The final Riders home game of the season will go on Saturday, October 22, with a kickoff a 5:00.
