Connor Bedard cruising along with the Regina Pats

Regina Pats captain Connor Bedard has raced to the points lead in the WHL season proving the a pointless opening night game against Moose Jaw was indeed just a bump on the road.

Bedard has 17 points (7G-10A) over nine games to kick off the 2022-23 WHL season.

On Thursday, Bedard joined Michael Ball on the SportsCage as the Pats get set to head out on the road for a matchup against the Broncos following a three game homestand which included a win against Swift Current.

The North Vancouver product gives a lot to his teammates for helping him establish an early lead in the WHL points race.

“I’ve gotten a few easy points because of linemates.”

Despite being on top for overall points, Bedard along his head coach, John Paddock believe the forward hasn’t had the best of luck to begin the year, as they think the point total could even be higher.

“I too feel like I’ve been snake bitten the last five or six games, hopefully that turns and I can start scoring some more. ”

One of the teammates that has benefitted playing alongside Bedard has been newcomer, Alexander Suzdalev. The Washington Capitals third round pick has already scored three powerplay goals in Regina. The Pats captain believes Suzdalev has a creative approach to the game.

“He has ridiculous skill.” Bedard added that Suzdalev attempted  “The Michigan”, the lacrosse inspired shot maneuver recently and almost pulled off the feat.

Besides guiding the Pats on the ice, the 17 year old is learning to drive off the ice as he earned his driver’s license in August before returning to the Queen City for the WHL season.

The vehicle that Bedard used when going for his driver’s exam, his mom’s RAV4. The Pats captain was able to pass the exam on his first try.

His squad, the Regina Pats are on the road again when they meet the Swift Broncos tonight in Speedy Creek.

Last Saturday, the Pats earned a 4-3 win, the Pats held off a late Broncos charge after they jumped out to a 4-0 lead.
