The president of SARM says farmers faced a challenging year in 2019 and hopes for a better year in 2020.
Ray Orb says a spring drought was followed by a wet summer and harvest.
“We think about 2.5 million acres in this province alone has been left unharvested,” said Orb.
Orb says farmers also faced trade difficulties in markets like China for canola.
He adds rural municipalities need more government help to repair roads and bridges. “We have about 1,500 bridges in this province and a lot of them are in a state of disrepair or they need replacing.”
He is looking for a better year in 2020 with an early spring to enable harvest to wrap up before seeding begins.
