A new 13 million litre water reservoir is now a part of Weyburn’s infrastructure.

Construction on the project began back in 2017 and the city celebrated the finished project on Friday.

Weyburn Mayor Marcel Roy says the new water reservoir gives the city one of the top water treatments in the province, as well as 20 million litres of water storage capacity.

“If something were to happen to our water supply and we have to fix a pump or pipe, or there’s a break in there, we have four days of water to work with as apposed to probably about three hours in the past,” said the mayor. He added how the large capacity will allow the city to continue growing and for the population to keep rising.

“We’re probably the 10th largest city in the province, and simply by moving forward like this, we are set for future growth all the way through,” he said. “This is very exciting because that’s all put into part with the building of our brand new school and a brand new community centre and moving forward into the future.”

The reservoir was funded by the federal, provincial and municipal governments.
