Roadwork near Yorkton progressing well according to ministry of highways

Work on passing lanes for Highways #9 and #10 in the Yorkton area is progressing nicely.

Highways and Infrastructure Minister Greg Ottenbreit says construction on Highway #10 between Yorkton and Melville is getting close to the final stages.

“(Construction crews) have had pretty good weather and no real issues, so that’s going along quite well,” Ottenbreit said. “They’re just in the initial stages of staking things out, making sure they’re ready to go on the section of highway #9 between Yorkton and Canora.

“(They’re) progressing quite well, still on track, and expected to be operational fully sometime this fall.”

Ottenbreit says the provincial economy is export-heavy, so a good road system is essential. In addition, Ottenbreit says work on Highway #5 has been going smoothly.

“Right now, we’re working on the centre-section widening, and doing some road work there, the next section will be closer to Humboldt.” Ottenbreit said. “Phase three will be the year after, we’ll be specifically some twinning and then going down to passing lanes just east of Saskatoon.”

Work on Highway #39, from Regina to the U.S. border, including five passing lanes, 35 kilometres of resurfacing and other improvements are also underway and expected to be done by next October.
