While we have heard both the Saskatchewan Party and NDP talk about many things during this election campaign, there has not been a lot of chatter about social and economic rights.

With today being the United Nations International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, the Regina Anti-Poverty Ministry is calling on both the Sask Party and NDP to take decisive action to combat poverty,

Spokesperson Peter Gilmer says the SaskParty certainly hasn’t done that over the last four years.

“Before the 2016 election, the province has just come down with a poverty reduction strategy and since that time, basically all we’ve seen has been cuts to programs for people living in poverty,” said Gilmer. “Particularly for folks on income assistance.”

Gilmer is encouraged to hear NDP leader Ryan Meili talk about a 15 dollar an hour minimum wage which is one of his campaign promises.
