Creative Kids receives over $150,000 from 2022 India Night Gala

More children in Saskatchewan who come from low-income homes now have a greater chance and ability to join the recreational activities they love.

Creative Kids Saskatchewan believes that children from all walks of life deserve the support and the chance to participate in opportunities that will help them find positive growth and self-esteem, no matter the financial barriers their families face.

Cultural Connections Regina recognizes the importance of this support and chose Creative Kids to be the recipient of the funds raised from the 2022 India Night Gala.

“Not only did the Creative Kids mandate align with ours, but it was really important that Children have the opportunity to participate in creative activities as it builds confidence and self-esteem,” says Dr. Renu Kapoor, Chair of Cultural Connections Regina.

“Children shouldn’t lose out on opportunities because of financial barriers and COVID-19 was tough on charities.”

The gala was a sold-out event of over 500 people. The event raised a total of $167,826.

“The funding will be used for children ages four to 19 in the Regina area to participate in arts and cultural activities such as music, theatre, dance, drama, and to connect with their culture as well with things like powwow dancing, or traditional beating, or to learn a new language,” says Gloria Walsh, Manager at Creative Kids Saskatchewan.

According to the most recent statistics from 2019, Saskatchewan has the highest provincial child poverty rates. More than 73,500 children have limited access to essential daily needs and opportunities. The pandemic and isolation increased the financial troubles that many families across Saskatchewan face on a daily basis.

With this donation, Creative Kids will be able to help provide opportunities for up to 400 children within their next model year. That equals roughly $400 per child for cultural and creative recreational activities.

Over the last twelve years since Creative Saskatchewan opened, they’ve received almost $5.4 million and they have helped over 12,000 children.

More information about Creative Saskatchewan and how families can register their children with the organization can be found on their website.
