RCMP are investigating an incident in northwest Saskatchewan where someone was reportedly pulled over by another person who was portraying a law enforcement officer.

It happened near the town of Marshall, near the Alberta border on the Yellowhead Highway, Monday afternoon around 12:45.

In a news release, RCMP say a black SUV with a black grill and blue lights on the dash tried pulling over a vehicle on Highway 303.  A man, believed to be 30-40 years old and wearing a white button-up shirt, got out of the SUV and approached the stopped vehicle where he then asked the driver to exit and produce identification.   The driver instead drove off and the SUV turned off onto a grid road.

Officers from detachments in the area are looking for that SUV and say public safety is their priority.

RCMP say anyone with concerns can ask for an officer’s badge and ID card which should have a matching regimental number.  Verification can also be had by calling 310-RCMP or 9-1-1.

It is illegal to impersonate a police officer in Canada.
