Terrell Jana was a player that some CFL mock drafts had going number one. Jana, who made 123 receptions for 1,481 yards and five touchdowns in 49 games with the University of Virginia, fell to the Riders in the second round much to the team’s delight. He is now like many others trying to crack the roster but he is perhaps in the deepest area that the Riders have as there are six players looking for spots.
Jana admits the first few days of camp were difficult as he re-adjusted to the Canadian game.
“It was tough.” Jana admitted. “It’s trying to get used to the motion and the different concepts. The fact you can have six receivers out there in motion at the same time means there are endless possibilities with the routes you can run. For me, the main thing is to catch up to where the veteran guys are.
Head Coach Craig Dickenson has indicated he could have two Canadian receivers on the field when the season begins August 6th against B.C, but he says with the talent he has at his disposal, the battle for who makes it and who doesn’t is tough.
We’re very pleased with our Canadian receivers,” Dickenson said. “We feel we’ve got six good ones. It would be nice to be able to keep them all. We’ll see what we can do. They’re not just good at catching the ball. Those guys can run. They can block. They can play special teams. They are going to make life tough for us in terms of decisions.”
