Number 1’s at 1 – July 22

Coming up on today’s edition of Number 1’s at 1:

Sonny James walked into a studio on this day in 1957 to record “Near You.” 20 years later George Jones and Tammy Wynette would take it to number one, marking their second consecutive number one after their divorce.

Charley Pride started a three week ride at number one on this day in 1972 with “It’s Gonna Take a Little Bit Longer.”

George Strait landed his 17th number one and 11th consecutive chart topper on this day in 1989 with “What’s Going on in Your World.”

Ronnie Milsap started his second week at the top of the county chart 42 years ago today with “Only One Love in my Life.”

The album “Fancy Free” from The Oak Ridge Boys was number one this week in 1981. It was one of their first albums to ever achieve multi-platinum status thanks to it’s huge single “Elvira.”

Brad Paisley found himself at number one 14 years ago this week with “The World.” The song stayed at top for three weeks in 2006.

We’ll also celebrate Don Henley’s birthday today. The founding member of The Eagles turns 73 today.
