FCC has strong short-term outlook for cattle and hogs

A cattle and hogs market update from Farm Credit Canada has some positive news for producers.

FCC chief agriculture economist, J.P. Gervais, says there is strength in cattle and hog prices but some concerns about the long-term outlook.

He says limited supply and good demand reflect relatively strong hog and cattle prices this fall.

Gervais says there is concern a downturn in the global economy in the coming year will reduce red meat demand and push down prices.

He says rising interest rates are expected to slow growth and could push the global economy into recession.
