Recent snow has Reginans scrambling to install winter tires

The recent snow in Regina caught many drivers off-guard resulting in many collisions due to people not having winter tires.

Bob Ripplinger, from Pro Certified Auto Service says work at his shop has been non-stop since the snow fell. He adds it’s super important to make sure your car has winter tires.

“I feel it’s very important, you have better traction, better stopping power, less sliding,” said Ripplinger. “They’re more convenient for you and safer on the road for your vehicle.”

Ripllinger says there are some other things to check on your car before winter hits.

“The number one problem people forget to do is check their antifreeze and their block heaters, make sure  your block heaters are working” said Ripplinger. “The other thing with the maintenance is make sure your ignition is good, your plaugs are good and that you have good firing power in your battery because if you don’t have a fully charged battery, or a poor spark in the ignition, you’ll flood your vehicle and you won’t get it started.”

He adds its best to get your winter tires installed as soon as possible.

“I like to tell my customers to get them done at the beginning of October for the simple reason, don’t get caught with the first snow fall like we did last week,” said Ripplinger. “People are in a big panic then, or people are sliding into the curb for the simple reason that they just wait too long.”
