Ryan isn’t thinking retirement at age 39

Jon Ryan is in his 18th year of professional football.  He has a Super Bowl ring from his time with the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks and he would love nothing more to have a Grey Cup ring from his days with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

The 39-year-old returned to Regina to kick for his hometown team in 2019, but with no 2020 because of the pandemic, some wondered if he would be back in 2021.  Not only is he back, but he has unleashed some mammoth punts during training camp including some during the green-and-white scrimmage on Saturday showing age is not catching up to him.

Speaking with reporters Tuesday. the product of Sheldon-Williams Collegiate says he knows exactly where he is in his career and he is having a blast.

“It’s great. It’s been a long time since I have been able to play football with the boys.” Ryan said. “There are definitely more yesterdays than tomorrow in my career for sure.  That is one of the reas0ns why I’m enjoying it so much.  I’m having more fun since I’ve had before and I think that is part of it because I know there’s not a lot of them left.

As for when it is over, Ryan says he is here to have fun and winning is fun.  When the fun stops he says it will be done.
