An 11 year old girl is recovering after being hit by a car Saturday night.

It happened at 3rd and Athol in the north-central part of the city just before 7:30 as she was trying to cross the street. The girl was taken to hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.

A 17 year old is facing charges after it was determined he was on his cellphone when the accident happened.

SGI, who just launched a campaign about distracted driving last week, says there were 4,539 collisions where distracted driving was a factor in 2019.  There were 688 injuries and 16 deaths from those crashes.
