A tornado spotted near Estevan on Tuesday has been confirmed by Environment Canada.

Meteorologist Alysa Pederson said a tornado warning was issued when funnel clouds were spotted near Estevan and Yellow Grass, with the touchdown happening close to Rafferty Dam.

“We actually did get a pretty clear video from Rafferty Dam so just to the west of Estevan,” Pederson said. “The tornado at that point was actually over the water so that’s what we call a water spout,” she added.

Environment Canada is asking those who saw the twister to call them, or send in video or pictures as they continue to investigate.

Pederson said this is the fifth tornado to touchdown in Saskatchewan this season.

She adds despite the heat and humidity in many parts of the province on Wednesday, active weather is not expected until closer to the weekend.
