Something as simple as a haircut can change a person’s entire self-image.
In support of National AIDS Awareness Day on December 1, AIDS Program South Saskatchewan has partnered with Community Cuts in Moose Jaw to provide quality haircuts to low-income individuals.
“We’re giving them the opportunity to have that experience of a really great cut, a really great boost of self-esteem and confidence. People are leaving feeling really handsome or beautiful, really good about themselves,” says Erin Hidelbaugh, Program and Event Coordinator with AIDS Program South Saskatchewan.
“Haircuts change lives and maybe it’s only for those ten minutes after that cut or maybe it’s forever. You can see a difference in the people.”
On November 27 at the Circle Project, Community Cuts will be giving away free haircuts between 10 a.m. and 12:30 a.m.
Residents looking to get a free cut must sign up at the Circle Project on the morning of November 27.
Community Cuts and AIDS Program South Saskatchewan put on this event every other month. In July, barbers and hairstylists gave away 50 haircuts, and then gave away another 30 haircuts in September.
At these events, AIDS Program South Saskatchewan will also be providing naloxone training, information for harm reduction, and promoting their needle exchange program.
Community Cuts is looking to find a few more barbers and hairstylists to help out at the event.
