They may be bitter rivals on the ice, but Saskatchewan’s five WHL teams are able to team up for a new off-ice fundraiser.
The Pats, Blades, Raiders, Warriors and Broncos have put together an online 50/50, called The Hockey Harvest Lottery. All the proceeds from the lottery will be split evenly between the clubs and go to their alumni scholarship funds.
As with many sports organizations, Saskatchewan’s WHL teams have lost significant revenue with the cancellation of the 2019-20 season, and the delay in starting this new season. That puts extra stress on clubs to meet their scholarship obligations for former players. In total 400 players went to school on a WHL scholarship in total.
“By purchasing tickets, Saskatchewan residents will have a chance to win big, and they will also be supporting the academic endeavours of their favourite WHL players,” said WHL Commissioner Ron Robison.
Perhaps the best part if you’re buying a ticket is that the jackpot is already seeded with $75,000.
Tickets go on sale November 16 and continue through December 20. The winner will be drawn on December 21 at 1 pm Central Time.
