Regina Public Schools making elementary school changes to mitigate COVID-19 spread

The Regina Public School Board is announcing a series of changes for elementary schools in an attempt to keep everyone safe from the spread of COVID-19.

Starting with the first day on September 1, students will be heading to their respective schools at staggered times for the first week with exact times being made available soon.

Recess is also changing with morning recess going from 8:53 to 9:08 a.m. and afternoon recess from 3:22 to 3:37 p.m. This means recess will be happening before morning classes and after the school day ends.  Morning and afternoon breaks will still occur.

Parents taking their kids to school are being asked not to drive or stop vehicles within one block of the school. Students are encourages to walk, bike or run to school.

Anyone wanting or needing to visit a school will have to call ahead with a staff member meeting you at the door before you are let in.  Members of the public will not be allowed inside if there is not a reason with guest speakers and presenters not being allowed until further notice.

As for high schools, the board says guidelines are being worked on and will be released next week.

Earlier this week, the Regina Public School Board said kids in Grades 4-12 will have to wear masks when inside.
