Dozens of people braved the cold, and the pandemic, to gather in Victoria Park to honour Remembrance Day at the Cenotaph Wednesday.
The socially distanced, masked up crowd stood in silence as they remembered fallen military members, and those still serving.
President and CEO of the Regina Legion, Ron Hitchcock says he was happy to see people come out and take part in the ceremony.
“Our freedom is the most important thing that we have, that allows us to make choices,” said Hitchcock. “The choice we made is to come out here today in honour of those that provided that freedom.”
Despite COVID-19 restrictions ultimately leading to the cancellation of the annual event at the Brandt Centre, Hitchcock says the plan was always to have something.
“We were always going to have something, initially it was going to be 30 people and then it was expanded, and that’s what we did,” said Hitchcock. “Everyone behaved themselves and stayed outside the barrier, so everything was good.”
The Remembrance Day event in Regina was one of many scaled down celebrations around the country due to COVID-19.
