Environment Canada has issued Heat Warnings for portions of central and northern Saskatchewan Monday morning, including the Battlefords, Prince Albert, Melfort, Nipawin and Tisdale.

According to the weather office extreme heat continues to build into central Saskatchewan, with humidex values above 34 expected later Monday, Tuesday, and potentially Wednesday as well.

Temperatures will gradually moderate in the latter half of the week.

Regina and Moose Jaw are not included in the warning, because overnight lows will drop below 16 degrees, but highs of 35 are expected Tuesday and Wednesday for Regina, Moose Jaw is forecast to see highs of 35 Monday and Wednesday and a high of 36 on Tuesday, which would break a record set back in 1984.

If the forecast holds Regina could tie a record on Tuesday that was set back in 1919.

The normal daytime high for the Queen City this time of year is about 25.

Extreme heat affects everyone, watch for the effects of heat illness such as swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.

The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.
