The Saskatchewan Hockey Association has announced a “training phase” for their return-to-hockey plan as a pause continues on teams playing in tournaments and games.
Kelly McKlintock with the SHA admitted they are not sure when teams will be able to play games against opponents, but says this phase allows teams to hold tryouts and practices while following health guidelines.
McKlintock says minor hockey teams will be following a 30-50 system with a 50-person maximum per mini-league including coaches, staff, instructors, participants from multiple teams, officials and volunteers.
“For our membership, we had to give some quote on quote hope that there will be a season, we want people back on the ice,” said McKlintock. “You can practice, you can work on skill development, and so that’s what we did.”
Spectators, including parents who are not part of the other categories, and others who can ensure physical distancing, are not included in the 50-person total according to the SHA.
