The Canadian Agri-Food Trade Alliance has listed its top 5 issues for the federal election campaign and the post-pandemic economic recovery.
Executive director Claire Citeau says among the key issues are resolving non-tariff issues with the European Union.
“The tariffs were removed on the vast majority of products, but the non-tariffs continues to be problematic and hinder the real commercially viable assets for beef, pork, canola, grains, wheat, sugar, and processed food products,: said Citeau. “So, those non-tariff barriers do limit trade.”
CAFTA is also pushing for reinstatement of the appeal body of the World Trade Organization, New trade talks with the UK and Southeast Asian countries and increased promotion of Canada’s world class agri-food.
