New human trafficking legislation being developed by Ministry of Justice

The provincial government is working to develop new legislation to prevent human trafficking.

Ministry of Justice officials are reviewing a bill recently passed in Alberta that gives enhanced legal options to victims of human trafficking.

Justice Minister Don Morgan says in a news release that the ministry is working to make similar legislation here in Saskatchewan, adding that human trafficking is a crime often challenging for the justice system to respond to.

The government will be working with policing, legal and the community to identify ways to improve and develop future legislation.
