A Saskatchewan non-profit organization is encouraging producers to take advantage of federal government support programs for protecting species at risk.

Simply Agriculture Solutions executive director Travis Quirk says there are several species at risk in Saskatchewan and support can include returning farmland to native prairie grass.

Among the species at risk are the barn swallow, burrowing owl, sage grouse and monarch butterfly.

Quirk says farmers are encouraged to participate in an online workshop to set up a species at risk action plan and apply for government support.

Last year, he says the organization supported 20 different projects across the province.
