The Saskatchewan SPCA has launched a provincial Emergency Pet Food Bank.

Spokesman Josh Hourie says their goal is to keep families, including those with fur, together, during the pandemic.

The project is in collaboration with Food Banks of Saskatchewan and right now involves eight food banks in the province located in Carlyle, Fort Qu’appelle, Maple Creek, Melville, Moosomin, Nipawin, Rosthern and Swift Current.

Hourie says during COVID-19 pet owners have faced a difficult choice of feeding themselves or their pets and those who can’t provide for their four legged friends then contemplate surrendering them to a shelter or rescue.

All proceeds to the Emergency Pet Food Bank will directly support the program and ensure that pets’ nutritional needs are met. Visit the SPCA’s webpage for the food bank to make a donation.
