Pats lose to Blades on late powerplay goal

The Regina Pats couldn’t shut down the Saskatoon Blades powerplay on Wednesday night in a 5-4 loss.

Saskatoon would go 4 for 5 on the powerplay, including the game-tying and game-winning goals, both coming from Kyle Crnkovic.

Regina saw Cole Dubinsky and Connor Bedard have two-goal nights, with Ryker Evans, Logan Nijhoff, and Stanislav Svozil picking up two assists.

Dubinsky said to lose due to penalties is frustrating.

“I think it just came down to us taking penalties against a really good team. We gave them the whole game; they didn’t earn much of it, we just gave it to them, and you can’t do that against good teams,” he said. “We definitely need every single win and point to get into the playoffs, and when we give games away like that, it’s frustrating.”

This marks their second straight loss for the Pats as their record drops to 16-20-0-1 and pushed them two points back of the Swift Current Broncos for the last playoff spot.

On Friday night, Regina will be in action as they travel to Alberta to face the Lethbridge Hurricanes, who sit one spot ahead of them in the Eastern Conference.
