The RM of Edenwold has joined forces with 10 other local municipalities to adopt a rideshare policy.

Jana Jedlic, Manager of Planning and Development for the RM says that the want for rideshare is all about community safety.

“It presents an opportunity for a safe ride home,” said Jedlic. “And it presents opportunities for options to get from one community to another, which is sometimes limiting if you live in rural areas.”

Jedlic says that the RM is hopeful that they’ll receive an application from Uber or Lyft, due to the fact that they already serve Regina.

She thinks that once the service is up and running, people will use it right away.

“In the short-term we’re very hopeful that because there’s a level of familiarity with it already, people will be comfortable using it and take advantage of the opportunity right away.

Jedlic says that while there is no set date for when ridesharing will be available in the communities, 11 communities coming together to create the policy shows the power of cooperation.

“In order to make this effective, simple, and easy, we looked at this and worked together,” said Jedlic. “We had a common goal, so we actually worked together rather effectively, its great from the standpoint of relationship building and building capacity among a whole region of communities.”

The ten other municipalities include Lumsden, the RM of Lumsden, Grand Coulee, Pense, the RM of Pense, Pilot Butte, Balgonie, Belle Plaine, Buena Vista, and the RM of Lajord.
