RCMP in Saskatchewan say they have been dispatched to at least 79 motor vehicle accidents since the blizzard started in the province.
There were another 28 calls reporting traffic hazards such as vehicles that were stuck or abandoned. The Mounties say some officers may have responded to other weather-related calls for service that were discovered during regular patrol or that were reported directly to their detachment.
Superintendent Grant St. Germaine of the RCMP says in a news release while the snow is letting up, it doesn’t mean people should be hitting the road just yet.
Drivers are reminded to check the road conditions with the Highway Hotline before traveling, and to stay home if travel is not absolutely necessary.
