SGI reminding drivers to stay safe during the Labour Day weekend

Labour Day is the last warm weather long weekend of the year, and SGI is reminding people to take it safe if travelling.

The insurance company’s Tyler McMurchy says long weekends tend to mean busier highways, and they want motorists to take care.

“We expect there’ll be people heading to the lake, heading to visit some friends in a neighbouring community, or just out and about,” McMurchy said. “With heavier traffic, the risk of collision on our highways does increase.”

SGI is reminding us to not drive distracted or impaired, make sure everyone’s buckled up, and McMurchy says obey posted speed limits, and watch for farm equipment.

“This time of year, you’re going to be especially mindful of the fact that it’s harvest, and there’ll be farmers moving their equipment between fields and sometimes they’ll be moving their equipment on our highways and roads,” McMurchy said. “Just slow down, and give those farmers plenty of space.”

SGI is asking people to obey speed limits, don’t drive impaired or distracted, and make sure everyone is buckled up.
