Saskatoon’s Quantum Genetix teaming up with SHA for user-pay COVID-19 tests

A Saskatoon company is teaming up with the Saskatchewan Health Authority for user-pay COVID-19 tests.

Quantum Genetix, which is licensed to perform COVID-19 testing in Saskatchewan, will be selling kits for $150, with the company saying results should be provided by e-mail in 24 to 48 hours and that any test found to be positive will be sent to the Roy Romanow provincial lab to be confirmed and verified.

The SHA is hoping this will ease some of the pressure they are under when it comes to testing.

In a release, the SHA says its Laboratory Medicine team has been working incredibly hard to provide test results in a timely manner, however, given the high demand for testing and our focus on prioritizing testing for people with symptoms before people or travelers without symptoms, it’s been challenging to provide timely results for asymptomatic travelers especially within the tight timelines required by airlines and international destinations.

The authority adds the company could process as many as 350 tests a day by the end of December.
