A fresh new version of Regina City Council sits down for the first time on Wednesday as a group.
New Mayor Sandra Masters is joined by five new councilors, as the group of 11 sit down to deal with the many items on the agenda for the monthly meeting.
Masters says they really can’t afford to just ease into things.
“There’s a lot of work to do.” Masters said on the eve of the first meeting which goes at City Hall at 1:30. “The city is a very large organization. As you know, we are in the midst of a global pandemic that is affecting our economy and our citizens so we have a lot of work to do.”
Since being elected, Masters and the new-look council have been busy getting up to speed on various issues with different groups. As she sits down for the first meeting, she admits the learning curve is still happening so it may take some time for the waters to smooth out somewhat.
“From a procedural standpoint I will limp along for the first couple of meetings.” Masters said with a chuckle. “Administration has been great when it comes to support as have other councilors. I think the first couple of meetings will be a little bumpy and then it will smooth itself out.
One of many items that will be discussed is changing the amount of meetings council has. Currently, it is once a month, but Masters thinks it would better serve Reginans if council meetings were held twice a month. She adds that this would likely prevent some lengthy meetings that have been occurring.
