Riders jet off to Winnipeg for Saturday’s Banjo Bowl

It’s hard to believe, but week six of the 2021 CFL season will be the first road game for the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

After going 3-1 in their first four at Mosaic Stadium, the Riders hit the road to face their long-time rivals, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Saturday in the annual Banjo Bowl.

Quarterback Cody Fajardo spoke to reporters Thursday, and said the team is ready to hit the road.

“We’ve been home dominant obviously in our schedule, so I think we’re excited to go on our first road trip, just a little change in our schedule, we know it’s going to be a great atmosphere and a hostile one, but I think the guys are excited to wash the bad taste from last Sunday out of our mouth,” Fajardo said.

The Riders will have some questions to answer on defense.

While defensive lineman Micah Johnson is trending towards playing Saturday, the defensive backfield could be without Ed Gainey and Loucheiz Purifoy, who were both limited in practice yesterday with nagging injuries believed to be suffered in Sunday’s Labour Day Classic.
