Provincial Government introduces new initiative to investigate gang-related activity

The provincial government are focusing on gang-related criminal activity with a new policing initiative.

The Saskatchewan Trafficking Response Team (STRT) is a specialized intelligence-led enforcement team dedicated to addressing illegal weapons, drugs, and human trafficking.

The STRT will be containing 41 permanent employees, including 30 RCMP officers, 6 municipal officers, 2 criminal analysts and 3 support staff

Offices will be located in Swift Current, Estevan and Lloydminster.

The team will be mobile and ready to deploy anywhere in the province to support other policing units in Saskatchewan as well as in Alberta and Manitoba.

The STRT will cost $2.1 million for 2021-22, the cost will increase to $6.4 million annually beginning in the new fiscal year.
