SK RCMP working with 211 Saskatchewan on additional support to domestic violence victims

RCMP members in Saskatchewan are getting new business cards in an attempt to provide additional support to victims of domestic violence as they partner with 2-1-1 Saskatchewan.

Constable Joelle Nieman  is the RCMP’s violence relationship co-ordinator in Saskatchewan. She says while the front of the card will still have contact information on it, the back will provide victims with necessary information and numbers.

Nieman says the cards can be given to people to inform them of 211 Saskatchewan and how they can safely and confidently provide an avenue of outreach for them.  She says many get frustrated as they are told to call multiple agencies before finding the appropriate help with many being discouraged as they go along the path before giving up on their quest for assistance.

Violence in Relationships investigations remain a high priority for the RCMP. Police officers respond and attend to these types of calls for service immediately. These types of investigations are very complex.

From January to September 2020, there have been 3,711 victims of Intimate Partner Violence reported to the Saskatchewan RCMP. So far, 2,529 of these files resulted in charges.
