Moose Jaw Warriors defenseman and 2020 Minnesota Wild third rounder, Daemon Hunt, was one of five players to be sent home from Team Canada’s World Junior Selection Camp in Red Deer after a 14 day quarantine period ended.

Of the five players sent home, two of them including Hunt, were diagnosed with COVID-19 around two weeks ago.

Hunt, who joined Derek Taylor on the SportsCage Wednesday afternoon, said he is feeling well.

“Yeah I did end up getting COVID-19, Hunt said.” Honestly though I wouldn’t even of known that I had it, but unfortunately Health Alberta actually released the five of us and right now it’s really disappointing, but I do understand and I’m happy that next year I have a great shot at making that team,” Hunt said.

With Hunt being one of those that just experienced mild symptoms from the virus, for him the 14 day lockdown was perhaps the hardest part of the whole endeavor.

“Yeah, the lockdown wasn’t easy,” Hunt said. “We were locked up in the hotel for 14 days, it was pretty tough and overwhelming after the first few days to be locked up for two weeks straight.”

The 2021 World Juniors will start Christmas Day and will be played in a bubble in Edmonton, similar to what the NHL playoffs looked like earlier this fall.

Canada opens the tournament against Germany on Boxing Day.

All teams are expected to be finalized and in the bubble by Sunday.
