Riders get back in the win column

The Riders are 4-2 after a 30-16 win over Toronto.

William Powell ran for 122 yards while Cody Fajardo threw for 212 yards and two touchdowns with one of those touchdown throws going to rookie Kian Schaeffer-Baker for his first career touchdown.  Schaeffer-Baker caught nine passes for 99 yards with the highlight being a 24 yard reception where he bounced off of several players before getting into the endzone.

“I just continue to work hard and have no excuses.” Schaffer-Baker said. “Our coaching staff and my teammates help build me up and help me be the person I am.  Add that to playing with the best quarterback in the league in my mind. When he is out there, it just allows all our receivers to play our game.”

Head Coach Craig Dickenson said it was a good bounceback effort after a pair of losses to Winnipeg.

“This was a good team effort as all three phases of the game played well.” Dickenson said.  “Being able to run the ball is who we are and what we want to do, but we keep working and tonight we found ways to get matchups we like.”

The Riders are back in action September 24 when they visit B.C

NOTES:

  • The win was Saskatchewan’s 8th straight regular-season win over Toronto.
  • Cody Fajardo’s first-quarter touchdown run was the first Riders TD in 32 possessions
  • Keion Adams had a big night as he recorded his first sack of the year while having a fumble recovery
  • Powell’s 122 yard game was the first 100 yard game for a Riders player running the ball since Powell did it in 2019 in a game against BC.
