A 14-year-old boy is dead after being shot inside a home in Candle Lake Saturday night.

RCMP say police were sent to the home just before 10 p.m and found the boy dead.

An initial investigation shows a 49-year-old man armed with a firearm was assaulting a woman when other occupants of the home intervened with the boy being shot before the suspect could be disarmed by another man.

The 49-year-old fled the scene and was found dead inside another home in Candle Lake Sunday morning with what appears to have been a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The investigation is ongoing. At this time, no names are being released.
